The Russian Container Market Surges Forward: The Numbers Speak for Themselves
Over the first seven months of 2026, the volume of Russia's container market broke through the 4.17 million TEU mark, demonstrating a solid 7% growth compared to the same period last year. This is more than just statistics—it is a clear signal of a logistics reboot.
Imports have become the primary driver of this breakthrough, skyrocketing by an impressive 17% (1.8 million TEU). While exports dipped slightly by 1% (1.1 million TEU), the domestic market continued its steady expansion (+3%, 924,000 TEU), and rail transit added another 1% (335,000 TEU). A particularly impressive surge occurred in July: transport volumes jumped by 14.8% compared to the same month in 2025.
What is happening with rates in August?
Routes from China have become a focal point of attention. On rail routes via border crossings, prices have finally found their footing and stabilized following July's fluctuations. The range has settled at $8,500–$10,000 per container.
However, sea and multimodal shipments from China continue to storm. Rates here are behaving unpredictably: the market oscillates between stabilization and volatility. The price spread for 1 FEU is currently massive—ranging from $1,800 to $9,700—creating both risks and opportunities for maneuvering. The market is alive, breathing, and demanding flexibility.
